On 14 May 2018 at approximately 1230 hours local time, the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department (CCSD) served a suspect with protection from abuse orders, which lead to a standoff with the deputies. The suspect answered the door with a firearm and claimed to possess explosives. The suspect eventually surrendered and Florence Police Department Explosive Devices Unit found two hoax improvised explosive devices (IEDs) inside the residence. CCSD deputies took the suspect into custody and charged him with two felony counts of possession of a hoax device.
