On 8 November 2017, a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (RCIED) was discovered on the Indus Highway outside Mehran University of Engineering and Technology (MUET) in Jamshoro. A rickshaw driver reported the RCIED and police responded immediately, establishing a cordon. The RCIED was discovered minutes prior to student buses traveling to MUET, Sindh University, and Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) were to use the same route. The RCIED consisted of five metal pipes with about 2.2 pounds (1 KG) of explosives in each, totaling approximately 11 pounds. It was placed under a protective roadside wall. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was able to render safe the device and clear the road for traffic.
