On 17 October 2017 at approximately 1720 hours local time, a bus carrying police officers was struck by a possible roadside bomb in the Yenisehir District of Mersin Province. The blast wounded 17 police officers and one civilian. No group claimed responsibility for the attack. The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), a group designated as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the EU, is known for their use of Radio Controlled Improvised Explosive Device (RCIED) attacks in Turkey. An investigation is ongoing.
