On 11 October 2017, after receiving information of a possible explosive device, officers from the Huntingdon Borough Police Department (HBPD) and Huntingdon County Sheriff’s Department (HCSD) executed a search warrant at a local residence in Huntingdon. HBPD located a backpack in the basement, which contained two potential pipe bombs. Hazardous device technicians took x-rays of the devices and determined that they were viable explosives. The Penn State Bomb Squad responded and rendered safe each device, which contained gun powder, nails, razor blades and screws. An arrest was made in connection to the incident and the suspect was charged with possession of weapons of mass destruction and risking a catastrophe. An investigation is ongoing.
