On 29 September 2017, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) prematurely detonated on a roadside in the town of Guindulungan. Investigators claimed the device, which allegedly included nails for fragmentation enhancement, was likely planted and set to explode the following morning when public transportation passed through the area. A Maguindanao Provincial Police spokesperson stated that the device was planted by militants who were recently driven out of the area by the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) 6th Infantry Division. There were no injuries as a result of the explosion.
