Texas: Hoax Device at Eagle Pass Independent School District

On 23 September 2017, an interagency investigation was launched after a possible explosive device, a grenade, and bomb threat written on cardboard were discovered at the front gate of the Eagle Pass Independent School District (ISD) District Service Center in Eagle Pass. Upon discovery of the device, the Eagle Pass ISD Police Department (ISDPD) contacted the City of Eagle Pass Police Department (EPPD). After further investigation, the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), FBI Bomb Squad, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), the Texas Rangers, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPL), and the Laredo Bomb Squad were contacted and responded to the incident. Bomb Squad technicians removed the suspect device and determined that it did not pose an explosive hazard. An investigation is ongoing and the police requested any person(s) with information contact the EPPD or the FBI.
