Iowa: Suspect Uses Explosive Device to Rob Credit Union
TRIPwire, 26 September 2017, 0800 On 25 September 2017 at 1612 hours local time, Des Moines Police Department (DMPD) officers responded to reports of a bank robbery at a local credit union. Police located the suspect in his vehicle several blocks from the credit union. The suspect attempted to flee on foot and dropped his duffel bag in the process, before being apprehended by authorities. The suspect claimed that the bag contained explosives. The Des Moines bomb squad responded, but was unable to initially determine the viability of the device, and detonated the bag in a controlled explosion. The suspect was charged with violation of parole and interference with official acts. Charges related to the robbery are also expected.
