Indiana: Police Discover Bombs while Searching

On 20 September 2017 at approximately 1800 hours local time, LaPorte City Police Department (LCPD) officers discovered two bombs, while executing a search warrant at a residence adjacent to LaPorte High School. The LCPD began the search after receiving information that a local resident talked about abducting children, was in the possession of explosive materials and claimed that he made two explosive devices. Porter County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Bomb Squad technicians provided support and discovered the two bombs inside the suspect’s home, at least one contained liquid explosives. Both devices were rendered safe. The man was also accused of wiring the ignition of a neighbor’s vehicle to its gas tank. On 21 September 2017, the suspect was formally charged with two counts of possession of a destructive device.

On 20 September 2017 at approximately 1800 hours local time, LaPorte City Police Department (LCPD) officers discovered a hazardous device, while executing a search warrant at a residence adjacent to LaPorte High School. LaPorte County does not have a bomb squad. Porter County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) bomb technicians responded and cleared the scene of explosive hazards. No device information was made available at the time. An investigation is underway.
