From 20 to 21 September 2017, Leicester Police officers arrested eight suspects at two locations in Leicester. On 20 September 2017, police responded to a reported assault that occurred at a residence on Daneshill Road where a 55 year-old victim was taken to the hospital and treated for an arm injury. That investigation led to two arrests and additional searches of a home on Jarvis Street in Leicester the following day. Several “items of concern” were found during both searches and a total of eight suspects were arrested. Seven suspects were arrested for suspicion of manufacturing explosives under suspicious circumstances and one was arrested for attempted murder. The explosives charges fall under Section 4 of the Explosive Substance Act of 1883. Police officials released a statement indicating the arrests were not linked to terrorism. No details on the explosive substances were made available. An investigation is ongoing.
