Turkey: Suspected Jihadist Accused of Plotting Drone Attack on U.S. Air Base

On 10 August 2017, members of the Turkish national police special operations department in the southern city of Adana, arrested a Russian national on suspicion of planning a drone attack against the U.S. Incirlik air base in southern Turkey. The male suspect, a known ISIS sympathizer, used the Telegram messaging application to obtain nearly $800 to buy a drone. The Russian national admitted that he was scouting the area around the air base in order to shoot down a U.S. plane and attack U.S. soldiers.
