On 1 August 2017 at approximately 2220 hours local time, officers from the Cleveland Police Department (CPD) bomb squad responded to a report that a male suspect told the Metroparks Rangers that he planted an explosive device somewhere in the sand at a local beach. Metroparks Rangers evacuated the area, while CPD bomb squad members searched the beach. A suspicious device was recovered, which was later determined to be a hoax. An investigation is ongoing.
