On 09 September 2018, Yemeni military forces destroyed a water-borne improvised explosive device (WBIED) sent by Houthi rebels to attack international shipping in the Red Sea. The boat was reportedly travelling at up to 35 miles per hour. According to the local media, Yemeni forces redirected the WBIED towards a nearby deserted island where they rendered safe the device.
