West Virginia: IEDs Discovered During Traffic Stop

On 9 April 2019, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) and Wayne County Sheriff Drug Enforcement Unit deputies discovered two IEDs during a drug-related traffic stop. One IED was described as a pipe bomb and the other was unidentified. A male suspect was arrested and charged with illegal possession of destructive devices, explosive materials, or incendiary devices and possession of a controlled substance. Authorities later conducted a search warrant at the suspect’s residence, but did not locate any additional explosive device. WCSO’s K-9 unit, West Virginia State Police (WVSP), and the WVSP Explosive Response Team assisted in the investigation.
