TRIPwire, 12 August 2019
On 10 August 2019, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on a 22-year-old suspect’s home after receiving information that he might possess explosive materials and firearms. The search yielded multiple bags of associated components, including pipes, ball bearings, PVC pipe, activated charcoal, sulfur, and potassium nitrate. Police also discovered a written tirade describing the establishment of a militia and detailing its operations. The suspect was already in jail on unrelated domestic battery charges and now faces additional charges for the explosive materials. The Lombard Police Department, DuPage County Bomb Squad, FBI, and ATF assisted with the investigation.
