Mali: UN Peacekeepers Targeted by Roadside IED

On 6 October 2019, a roadside IED detonated near the town of Aguelhok, killing one UN peacekeeper and wounding five others while they were on patrol. The Group to Support Islam and Muslims, which has sworn allegiance to al-Qa’ida in the Islamic Maghreb, claimed responsibility for the attack. There is no further information on the IED, and the investigation is ongoing.
