California: Pyrotechnic Thrown at Homeless Man’s Tent

On 6 October 2019 at approximately 2300 hours local time, the Los Angeles Police Department responded to reports of a loud explosion near a highway underpass. Police discovered a homeless man whose tent was damaged by the explosion. The man said he heard a vehicle rev up and speed away just prior to the explosion and claimed it was a large pyrotechnic device, possibly an M-80, that detonated. Police later confirmed that a pyrotechnic device caused the explosion. The man and his two cats were uninjured.
