On 6 November 2019 at approximately 1000 hours local time, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Lafayette County Sheriff’s Department, Whiteman Air Force Base Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), and the FBI responded to reports of a military ordnance discovered in a room at a motel. The motel was evacuated and gas to the building was turned off. At the scene, police discovered the ordnance describing it as a rocket-propelled grenade, and later determined that it was functional military ordnance.
