TRIPwire, 27 November 2019

On 24 November 2019, an officer from the Palm Beach Gardens Police Department encountered a woman in the road who said a man had left her there after an argument. The officer saw the 59-year-old man make a U-turn down the road and drive erratically while attempting to flee the area. The suspect was pulled over for his involvement in the domestic dispute with the woman and on suspicion of driving drunk. The officer conducted a DUI investigation and called a tow truck to the scene. While preparing the vehicle to be towed, the tow truck driver spotted possible explosive devices. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad responded to the scene, examined the devices, and determined there were commercial pyrotechnic devices and six IEDs. According to authorities, the IEDs consisted of cardboard tubes filled with chlorate-based explosive powder and a fuse. The suspect was arrested at the scene and was charged with six counts of possession of explosives and a DUI. Federal authorities are now handling the case.
