Pennsylvania: 2 IEDs Discovered in Private Residence

On 10 December 2019 at approximately 1430 hours local time, officers from the Sugarcreek Borough Police Department responding to a report of possible methamphetamine manufacturing discovered two IEDs, drugs, and drug paraphernalia in an apartment in Franklin. The Pennsylvania State Police Hazardous Device and Explosives Section was dispatched to the scene and removed the IEDs to a safe location. While technicians were performing render safe procedures on the devices, the larger IED detonated. No injuries were reported, but the device left a “considerable crater” where it functioned. Two residents of the apartment were arrested and face multiple charges.
