Indonesia: Emplaced VOIED Wounds Village Leader

On 11 January 2020, a victim-operated IED (VOIED) functioned in front of a residence in Padang village in Bengkulu, injuring the homeowner. The device was concealed inside a bag and placed at the door of the village leader’s residence, detonating when the victim tried to open the bag. The 60-year-old victim sustained injuries to parts of his upper body and feet. The Gegana bomb disposal squad responded to the scene to collect evidence and interview witnesses. Bengkulu Police have not indicated whether the incident was linked to terrorism.
