Afghanistan: IED Attack Results in U.S. Service Member Casualties

On 11 January 2020, a vehicle was struck by an IED emplaced along a roadway in Kandahar province, killing two U.S. service members and injuring two others. The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, which occurred as both sides have been discussing a cease-fire. The two deaths are the first in 2020 for U.S. service members in Afghanistan. No device details have been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
