UPDATE: New Jersey: IED Discovered at Scene of Deadly Shootout
TRIPwire, 14 January 2020
On 13 January 2020, federal officials released new information about the IED linked to the 10 December 2019 Jersey City incident in which two suspects shot and killed a Jersey City Police detective, then attacked a nearby kosher market, leading to a four-hour police standoff that resulted in the deaths of the two suspects and three civilians. The suspects’ stolen rental truck contained an IED that was large enough to kill or injure people at a distance of up to five football fields (~500 yards). Authorities also found enough additional bomb-making material to make a secondary device. The incident continues to be investigated as domestic terrorism motivated by anti-Semitic and anti-police ideology.
