Philippines: IED Damages Docked Shipping Vessel
TRIPwire, 12 February 2020
On 11 February 2020 at approximately 0330 hours local time, six unidentified male suspects threw an IED at a “roll-on, roll-off” passenger ship docked at San Pascual port. The explosion damaged the vessel’s life preservers and a large air-conditioning system condenser, but resulted in no injuries. The suspects fled the scene via a motor boat, and San Pascual Police and the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 5 conducted hot pursuit operations. The owner and operator of the targeted shipping line believes the attack was an intimidation tactic pertaining to recent extortion demands.
