Oregon: Detonated Explosive Device Launches Couch Frame onto Power Lines

On 21 March 2020 at approximately 1145 hours local time, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Cloverdale Fire Department responded to reports of a loud explosion on a rural, county-owned property east of Sisters. At the scene, police found debris strewn around the undeveloped area and a couch frame hanging from power lines. Oregon State Police Bomb Squad technicians responded to help investigate the scene. Police determined that an explosive device detonated and destroyed a mattress and couch, propelling the couch frame 20 feet into the air onto the power lines. A resident about one mile away reported their house shaking from the force of the explosion. A male and female suspect were seen leaving the area in a vehicle, and, and the investigation is ongoing.
