TRIPwire, 23 March 2020
On 19 March 2020, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office and Butte Inter-Agency Bomb Squad responded to reports of an explosion at a private residence. At the scene, authorities found a 26-year-old male with injuries to his hands and legs caused by an explosion. Police discovered evidence of explosives manufacturing in the home and found bomb-making materials (BMM), pieces of a detonated IED, 20 firearms, and a large quantity of narcotics. Butte County Inter-Agency Bomb Squad technicians removed the BMM and the pieces of the detonated device. Authorities believe the injured male accidently detonated the IED while constructing it. Police arrested a 55-year-old female at the scene on suspicion of possession of illegal assault weapons, possession of a controlled substance for sale, possession of an explosive device, and possession of materials necessary to make an explosive device. Additional arrests are expected.
