Idaho: Ammonium Nitrate-Based Explosives Found in Shed

On 19 May 2020 at approximately 1730 hours local time, deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Idaho Falls Regional Bomb Squad technicians, Idaho State Police officers, and firefighters from the Madison Fire Department responded after a family discovered ammonium nitrate-based explosives in a shed on their Rexburg property. The explosives were rendered safe in a nearby field. According to a spokesperson for the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the explosives belonged to the family’s grandfather, who had been involved in prospecting, stored the explosives in the shed, and then forgot about them.
