Florida: Two Businesses Targeted with IIDs

TRIPwire, 21 May 2020

On 20 May 2020 at approximately 1220 hours local time, deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a fire behind a gas station next to a grocery store in Palm Coast, followed by a second fire behind a nearby restaurant. Police determined that both fires were started with improvised incendiary devices (IIDs) described as Molotov cocktails. Using footage from nearby surveillance cameras, police identified and arrested a 26-year-old male suspect, who admitted to starting the fires to “make a statement” and claimed that family members in the military had taught him how to make “fire bombs.” The suspect was charged with two counts of second-degree arson and possession of a fire bomb with explosion or damage.
