Nevada: Mining Explosives Stolen from Storage Facility

On 13 May 2020, officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) responded to a burglary incident at a commercial storage facility where 240 lb of explosives were reported stolen. According to LVMPD’s arrest reports, two male suspects stole a box containing 18 charges of ammonium nitrate based emulsion explosives, four 50 lb bags of ammonium nitrate fuel oil, and tools worth $1,500. Detectives from the LVMPD Counter Terrorism Section, as well as investigators from the FBI, and ATF identified and arrested two male suspects. When asked, one of the suspects stated that he knew the stolen material was explosives, and that he stole the material to make fireworks. The two suspects were charged with conspiracy, burglary, grand larceny, possession of stolen property, and possession of an explosive device.
