Oregon: Pipe Bomb Discovered on Private Property

On 24 June 2020, deputies from the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office and technicians from the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit responded after an IED described as a large pipe bomb was discovered on private property in Castle Rock while the owner was clear-cutting a portion of the property. The pipe bomb was described as 12-inches long and 4-inches in diameter. Technicians rendered the device safe without incident. The property owner said that the device had been spotted a year earlier but was not recognized for what it was. According to authorities, the device had been there for some time, and there were no indications as to its origin.
