Washington: Explosive Device Detonates on Road, Damages Vehicles

On 28 June 2020 at approximately 1600 hours local time, officers from the Spokane Police Department responded to reports of a loud explosion on the road of a residential area in northeast Spokane. Witnesses reported a masked suspect carrying a vacuum cleaner down the street, then running in the opposite direction after dropping the vacuum on the street. Shortly after, an explosion occurred, damaging three vehicles. Evidence of the explosion was found as far as 75 feet from the detonation. Device details were not provided. With assistance from witnesses, officers quickly arrested an 18-year-old male suspect seen fleeing the area. The suspect was charged with felony malicious explosion of a substance in the second degree.
