Rhode Island: Pyrotechnic Devices Thrown at Police during Protests

On 20 October 2020, at approximately 2100 hours local time, during a protest in Providence, several protestors threw pyrotechnic devices, described as fireworks, and other objects at Providence Police Department (PPD) officers near a public safety complex that houses the PPD. An officer and a K-9 sustained minor injuries after being struck by a thrown object. Troopers from the Rhode Island State Police assisted PPD with the response. Authorities arrested 19 protestors, though it was not clear if any arrests were device related. The investigation is ongoing.
