West Virginia: Explosive Device Found in Residence

On 5 January 2021, at approximately 2200 hours local time, West Virginia State Police (WVSP) officers responded to a residence in Points where suspects linked to a home invasion in Springfield fled after one of the suspects was shot during the incident. WVSP officers found an explosive device, body armor, knives, and handguns while searching the residence. The WVSP Bomb Squad, Hampshire and Mineral County Sheriff’s Office deputies, and Romney City Police officers responded to assist. Bomb squad technicians secured the device and rendered it safe. No additional device details have been released. Five male suspects were arrested on various charges, including possession of explosive materials. The investigation is ongoing.
