Cameroon: IED Kills 5, Including Government Official

On 6 January 2021, at approximately 0100 hours local time, a military vehicle traveling as part of a convoy in the country’s North West region was struck by an IED emplaced along a roadside, killing four soldiers and one government official and critically injuring at least five others. According to security officials, the device utilized gas cylinders. According to a government spokesperson, the official whose convoy was targeted was unhurt, and the attack was carried out by armed Anglophone secessionists who declared independence in two predominantly English-speaking western regions of the country in October 2017.
