On 8 February 2021, at approximately 0100 hours local time, Trinidad Police Department officers responded after a package left in a Trinidad parking lot exploded when a man opened it, seriously injuring him. ATF investigators and Pueblo Police Department Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist. Authorities did not disclose any device details, but investigators believe the incident is connected to the 5 February 2021 discovery of a suspicious device also left in a parking lot. Authorities arrested one suspect in connection with both incidents. He currently faces two charges of attempted first-degree murder and two charges of possession/use of an explosive device. The investigation is ongoing.
