Afghanistan: Explosive Device Emplaced Along Roadway Kills 4

On 21 February 2021, at approximately 1622 hours local time, Afghan security forces responded to Kabul’s Baraki neighborhood after an explosive device, described as magnetically influenced, detonated, killing at least 4 and injuring 5 others. Senior Afghan officials claim the Taliban was responsible for the attack, and may have used a special drill hidden within a vehicle to emplace the device. According to preliminary reports, this is the first known Taliban utilization of this type of drill to conceal explosive devices. The investigation is ongoing.
