On 30 March 2021, the Algerian Prosecutor General’s Office announced security forces had foiled a terrorist plot targeting pro-democracy protests in Tizi Ouzou and Bejaia. According to officials, the suspects planned to detonate two vehicle-borne IEDs (VBIEDs) during scheduled rallies. Authorities detained five suspects and seized weapons, ammunition, two vehicles, and electronic devices. Authorities did not disclose further information on the suspects or the plot, and the investigation is ongoing.
