On 31 March 2021, at approximately 1230 hours local time, Philippines National Police officers and military forces at a checkpoint in Santiago seized an IED described as similar to a pipe bomb and 15 meters [~49 ft] of detonating cord, as well as ammunition and food destined for the New People’s Army, a U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organization. Two suspects transporting the items were arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
