Germany: Man Injured by IED Emplaced on Sidewalk

On 29 August 2021, at approximately 0930 hours local time, local authorities responded to a main road through Leipzig after a 36-year-old man was injured when a cardboard box he picked up from the sidewalk detonated in his hands. The victim was transported to an outpatient center, where he received care for injuries to his right hand and lower abdomen. This incident is the fourth occurrence in a series of similar cases in Leipzig going back to May 2021. Authorities are investigating whether the incidents are connected. No suspects or motives have been identified, and the investigation is ongoing.
