New York: Apartment Targeted with IID in Possible Revenge Attack
TRIPwire, 13 January 2022
On 12 January 2022, at approximately 0440 hours local time, New York City Police Department (NYPD) officers and New York City Fire Department (NYFD) crews responded to a Queens apartment complex after an unidentified individual climbed a fire escape and threw an improvised incendiary device (IID), described as a Molotov cocktail, into a sixth-floor apartment. NYFD crews quickly extinguished the blaze. Authorities believe the attack was revenge for a drug deal gone bad. The resident of the targeted apartment was not hurt, but two firefighters were taken to a local hospital due to smoke inhalation. According to the NYPD, the resident’s two roommates were arrested earlier in the week on drug-related charges and one or both roommates were associates of the arsonist. The investigation is ongoing.
