Australia: IEDs Found in Residence, 1 Arrested

On 17 May 2022, at approximately 1600 hours local time, local authorities discovered IEDs and a taser in the room of a 42-year-old male after responding to a residence in Wooloowin, Brisbane, Queensland, for a reported disturbance call after the suspect threatened to kill an individual inside the home. The Queensland Police Service bomb squad responded to assist. Bomb squad technicians examined the devices in the home, described as utilizing “commercial-grade detonators,” before disposing of them via a controlled detonation. Authorities located the suspect, who had left the scene, in his vehicle in Coorparoo, where he admitted to making “firecrackers.” The suspect was arrested and charged with manufacturing explosives without authority, carrying an exposed weapon in a public place, and pretending to be a police officer, among other charges.
