Germany: Explosive Device Used to Target ATM

On 20 May 2022, at approximately 0330 hours local time, multiple suspects used an explosive device to attack a bank ATM in Ibbenbüren, Steinfurt, North Rhine-Westphalia. The blast destroyed the ATM and damaged the building housing it, but it is unclear if any money was stolen. Explosives’ experts responded to conduct a secondary search and assist local authorities with post-blast analysis of the scene. The suspects were able to flee in a vehicle and avoid a police barrier blocking the A30 motorway. The investigation is ongoing.
