Connecticut: WWII-era Ordnance Found During Magnet Fishing

On 2 August 2022, at approximately 0950 hours local time, Middletown Police Department officers responded to a home in Middletown after a resident reported that he had found three mortar shells while magnet fishing in the Mattabasset River. The Connecticut State Police Bomb Squad and a U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team responded to assist. The EOD team determined that the ordnance were World War II-era 81mm mortars and removed them for disposal.
