On 20 September 2022, local authorities responded after suspected militants remotely functioned an IED emplaced along the roadside as a police vehicle was patrolling near the Mai Kaen hospital in Pattani, killing one police officer and injuring four others. No additional device details were provided. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and the incident remains under investigation.
