On 14 October 2022, St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office deputies executed a search warrant at a home in Opelousas after questioning the suspect in the parking lot of a convenience store, where he admitted to detectives that he had constructed an IED similar to a “pipe bomb,” and stored it at his residence. No further device details have been released. Bomb squad technicians responded to the suspect’s home to assist and rendered the device safe. The 57-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with manufacture and possession of a bomb.
