Oregon: 1 IED Functioned, Several Other IEDs Discovered in Residence

TRIPwire, 8 November 2022 On 5 November 2022, at approximately 2314 hours local time, Florence Police Department (FPD) officers responded to a residence on Rhododendron Drive after a 24-year-old male suspect functioned a pipe bomb in the backyard and was holding another pipe bomb in his hand, threatening to hurt himself. Following negotiations, FPD officers convinced the suspect to put down the device and arrested him. Investigators also found two additional pipe bombs in the garage and bomb-making material (BMM), described as gunpowder, in a bedroom of the home. No further details about the pipe bombs or BMM have been released. The Eugene Police Department Explosive Disposal Unit responded to assist and safely removed the three pipe bombs and the BMM for offsite disposal. The suspect was arrested and charged with possession of a destructive device, disorderly conduct, reckless endangering, and unlawful manufacturing a destructive device.
