TRIPwire, 10 November 2022 On 2 November 2022, a 34-year-old male suspect was arrested for selling a pipe bomb to a Pasco County Sheriff’s Office detective following an undercover operation. ATF SABTs disassembled the pipe bomb, which was one-inch in diameter and about eight inches in length with a pyrotechnic fuse inserted through a hole on one end cap which extended inside the pipe filled with a suspected pyrotechnic filler. The pipe was taped to a quantity of exploding target material. A preliminary investigation determined that the pipe bomb was designed to detonate so that the pipe would rupture, causing the pieces to act as fragmentation. A subsequent search of the suspect’s Pasco County residence revealed additional bomb-making materials (BMM) and privately made firearms. No further details about the BMM were released. The FBI and the Tampa Police Department assisted with the investigation. The suspect was charged with unlicensed distribution of explosive materials, possession of an unregistered destructive device, and unlawful making of a destructive device.
