Yemen: 170 Tons of BMM and EPC Seized on Boat

TRIPwire, 15 November 2022 On 15 November 2022, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command reported that on 8 November the U.S. Coast Guard ship USCGC John Scheuerman and guided-missile destroyer USS The Sullivans intercepted a fishing vessel in the Gulf of Oman and seized more than 70 tons of bomb-making material (BMM), described as ammonium perchlorate, and more than 100 tons of an explosive precursor chemical (EPC), described as urea fertilizer. U.S. 5th Fleet’s Task Force 56 Navy EOD assisted in the vessel search. On 13 November, U.S. forces sank the vessel in the Gulf of Oman after determining it was a hazard to navigation for commercial shipping.
