India: IED Prematurely Functions in Vehicle, 2 Injured

TRIPwire, 21 November 2022 On 19 November 2022, an IED described as a “pressure cooker bomb” prematurely functioned in an auto rickshaw in Mangaluru, injuring the 40-year-old suspect and the driver, and damaging the vehicle. According to media reporting, the IED was a pressure cooker fitted with a detonator, wires, and batteries that were used to trigger the blast which investigators identified as a “low-intensity IED explosion”. A subsequent search of the suspect’s Mysore home uncovered bomb-making materials (BMM) identified as gelatin powder, circuit boards, tiny bolts, batteries, mobile phones, aluminum multimeters, cables, mixing jars, pressure cookers, and other components. The investigation is ongoing.
