Illinois: Explosive Devices and IIDs Discovered in Residence, 1 Arrested

TRIPwire, 8 February 2023 On 4 February 2023, Ford County Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at a home near Gibson City in connection to an aggravated assault investigation and discovered several explosive devices, improvised incendiary devices (IIDs), a firearm, and ammunition. No further device details have been released. University of Illinois Police Bomb Squad technicians responded to assist and conducted a controlled detonation on site. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Gibson City Police Department, and Paxton Police Department were also called to assist. A 33-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with possession of explosive/incendiary devices, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a firearm with a revoked Firearm Owner’s Identification card, aggravated use of a deadly weapon, and resisting a peace officer.
