On 13 March 2023, Preston County Sheriff's Department (PCSO) deputies found an explosive device on the driveway of a residence in Albright, after receiving a call from the homeowner. The West Virginia State Police Explosive Response Team responded to assist and examined the device, described as consisting of a wick that led to a can with a pill bottle inside, filled with pellets and a powder residue, appearing to be gun powder, inside the pill bottle, before rendering it safe. No further device details were provided. Video from a home security camera showed the suspect passing the home several hours before the device was discovered. Deputies executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home where he confessed to emplacing the device on the driveway and surrendered “shotgun shells and prescription bottle top that he used in the device.” The 37-year-old male suspect was arrested and charged with illegal possession of destructive devices, explosive materials, or incendiary devices.
